MLB: More Roy Halladay Rumors

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels and Phillies top Roy Halladay’s list of preferred destinations, and according to the National Post the Blue Jays are looking for a major league ready hitter and pitcher as well as prospects in exchange for Halladay.

According to the Daily News it is believed that the Blue Jays will require the Yankees to give up catching prospect Jesus Montero and Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes as well as another prospect or two, potentially top outfield prospect Austin Jackson.

It seems unlikely the Yankees would be willing to part with the 20-year old Montero considering Jorge Posada turns 38 next season and has played in a total of 162 games over the past two seasons.  Some believe Montero is going to be a 30-plus home run a season hitter once he fully matures as a big league hitter.

However, if the Yankees are serious about landing Halladay they would probably be willing to part with Chamberlain or Hughes and Jackson.  There is some question as to whether Chamberlain has the chops to be a front line starter and while Hughes has shown flashes of his potential he has yet establish himself as anything more than a quality set up man.  Neither pitcher has given any indication they are ever going to be as good as Roy Halladay is.

Also, according to the Daily News, it is believed the Jays would want Clay Buchholz, Daniel Bard, and Casey Kelly.  However it is believed that the Sox have no interest in parting with all three of those guys in any deal.  It is also thought that the Sox are more interested in dealing lower level prospects in an effort to get an impact bat as their staff is already one of the deeper staffs in baseball and Halladay really is more of a luxury than a necessity for Boston.
