2010 NFL Mock Draft 1.0 Round 3

With Round 1 and Round 2 in the books here comes my stab at Round 3 of the NFL draft.

65. St. Louis Rams – Damian Williams (WR, USC): The Rams have several young receivers who have shown potential but none of them have been able to put it all together for 16 games and claim the #1 receiver spot for the Rams.

66. Detroit Lions – Joe McKnight (RB, USC): McKnight could be a bit of a reach here, but, the Lions need some protection and depth at the position in the event Kevin Smith is not ready by opening day.

67. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Corey Wooton (DE, Northwestern): The Bucs recorded just 28 sacks last season and while Wooton may not be the best pass rusher he should at least help improve a run defense that gave up 158 yards per game last season.

68. Kansas City Chiefs – Rob Gronkowski (TE, Arizona): The Chiefs have nothing to be excited about at TE and adding a reliable pass catcher at the position could help take some of the heat off of Cassel.

69. Oakland Raiders – Jacoby Ford (WR, Clemson): The Raiders will reach for Ford as his blazing speed is too much for Al Davis not to bite on.

70. Philadelphia Eagles – Dominique Franks (CB, Oklahoma): The acquisition of Darryl Tapp drops drafting a DE further down the priority list.  Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel are as good a duo as there is in the league but the cupboard is a little bare after that.  Franks gives them some protection in the event the team decides to part ways with Brown this spring.

71. Cleveland Browns – Amari Spievey (CB, Iowa): The Browns had just 10 picks and allowed 245 yards per game through the air last year.  Improving pass coverage is a priority this off season.

72. Buffalo Bills – Dan LeFevour (QB, Central Michigan): The Bills roll the dice that the MAC quarterback is the real deal.  He will, at least, be more mobile than Fitzpatrick and Edwards.

73. Miami Dolphins - Brandon Spikes (LB, Florida): The Dolphins would like to improve at LB, Karlos Dansby helps.  Spikes was considered a first round prospect based on game play but is going to slide due to his lackluster 40 times.  Parcells has never been one to get hung up on combine scores.

74. Jacksonville Jaguars – Tim Tebow (QB, Florida): Jaguars owner expressed an interest during the season that he would be interested in Tebow if given the chance to draft him.

75. Chicago Bears – Brandon LaFell (WR, LSU): Like the Rams the Bears have a handful of young receivers who have shown some promise but nobody has separated themselves from the pack just yet and Chicago’s receivers really let Cutler down at times last season.

76. New York Giants – Selvish Capers (OT, West Virginia): Kareem McKenzie looked old last year and with William Beatty earmarked as the LT of the future Capers is someone the Giants can develop as the RT of the future.

77. Tennessee Titans – Javier Arenas (CB, Alabama): The Titans secondary was atrocious at times last season and Arenas gives them a play-maker back there.

78. Carolina Panthers – Arthur Jones (DT, Syracuse): Defensive Tackle was a revolving door for the Panthers last season due to injuries and Maake Kemoeatu signed with the Redskins.

79. San Francisco 49ers – Larry Asante (S, Nebraska): The Niners add some needed youth at the safety position.

80. Denver Broncos – Alex Carrington (DE, Arkansas State): At 6′ 5″ Carrington should be able to add a few extra pounds to play end in Denver’s 3-4 defense.

81. Houston Texans – Mike Johnson (OL, Alabama): The Texans need to get younger and athletic in the interior offensive line.

82. Pittsburgh Steelers – Jared Veldheer (OT, Hillsdale): The Steelers need to fix the offensive line if they want to make it back to the Super Bowl.

83. Atlanta Falcons – Brandon Lang (DE, Troy): Falcons hope Lang can be the pass rusher they have searching for the past couple of years.

84. Cincinnati Bengals – Michael Neal (DT, Purdue): Bengals hope Neal brings them some play-making from the middle of the line.

85. Cleveland Browns – Reshad Jones (S, Georgia): The Browns secondary needs a lot of help.  Jones will at least provide an upgrade in run support if nothing else.

86. Green Bay Packers – Jerry Hughes (OLB/DE, TCU): The Packers fill the hole left by Aaron Kampmen with speed rusher Hughes.

87. Philadelphia Eagles – Dorin Dickerson (TE, Pittsburgh): With some of the defensive needs addressed Reid treats himself to a new toy on offense.  Reid loves versatile players and Dickerson is a guy who can line up in several different positions and has blazing speed for someone who could potentially line up at TE or the FB positions.

88. Arizona Cardinals – Anthony McCoy (TE, USC): The Cards have been searching for a tight end for several years now and McCoy is a great value pick at this stage.

89. Arizona Cardinals – Tony Pike (QB, Cincinnati): With no proven long term solution at QB the Cards take Pike in hopes he develops into a starter in a year or two.

90. Dallas Cowboys – Riley Cooper (WR, Florida): Jerry is reportedly looking for another receiver in this year’s draft.

91. San Diego Chargers – David Reed (WR, Utah): Assuming Vincent Jackson re-signs there is not a lot to be excited about after him in San Diego.

92. Cleveland Browns – Jordan Shipley (WR, Texas): They need someone who can get open and catch the ball in Cleveland.

93. Minnesota Vikings – Jerome Murphy (CB, South Florida): The secondary let the Vikings defense down at times last season.

94. Indianapolis Colts – Brandon Ghee (CB, Wake Forest): The Colts add some needed depth to the secondary.

95. New Orleans Saints – Al Woods (DT, LSU): Saints hope Woods can beef up the interior run defense.

NOTE: The Redskins spent their third round pick in last year’s supplemental draft.
